Plan Your Ledger Live Flex Setup
Ledger Live Flex setup starts with the device and the official companion app, now named Ledger Wallet, formerly Ledger Live. Flex uses a secure touchscreen to display setup instructions, recovery words, addresses, and transaction approvals. Allow enough uninterrupted time for onboarding. Complete the recovery backup carefully before sending assets to a newly created wallet.
Download the Application for Your Platform
Start through Ledger’s official setup page and select your supported desktop or mobile platform. For desktop, prepare a USB data cable. For mobile Bluetooth, ensure the phone and Flex have Bluetooth enabled and follow pairing from within the application. Charging capability and the physical shape of a connector do not by themselves establish compatibility with every phone.
Pair the Device or Connect Over USB
Follow the welcome instructions on the Flex screen and select the appropriate mobile or desktop setup path. Name the device if requested. For Bluetooth, compare the pairing codes on both screens before approving them. For USB, connect directly to the computer where possible and authorize the legitimate device check. Stop if the application or connection prompt differs unexpectedly from official instructions.
Choose a PIN You Control
Set and confirm the hardware PIN on the Flex touchscreen. Keep it separate from a computer password or an application lock code. A PIN unlocks the device locally; it is not an online account password that support can recover for you. Avoid repeated guesses if you later forget it, because incorrect attempts can lead to a device reset.
Select the Correct Wallet Path
For a new wallet, let Flex generate a new recovery phrase and display it on its own screen. For an existing initialized Flex, connect the device and add its accounts rather than creating another wallet. If your intention is to restore another wallet, read Ledger’s touchscreen onboarding instructions and enter the phrase exclusively on the hardware device.
Record a newly generated phrase offline, in its exact order, and complete the on-device confirmation. Do not accept a prewritten phrase from a seller. Never type the words into a download page, mobile application, browser extension, or chat. Keeping the hardware and recovery backup together also creates a shared point of loss, so choose storage thoughtfully.
Complete Verification and Install Device Apps
Follow the application’s genuine-device check and model-specific update prompts. Device OS software and blockchain apps are separate from the companion application on your computer or phone. After the setup is complete, use My Ledger to install the app for the blockchain you intend to use. Add that network’s account to the companion app so you can view it.
Verify Your First Receiving Address
Start Receive for the intended account and compare the complete address on Flex with the application. Check the withdrawal network on the sending exchange or wallet. When practical, a small initial transfer can confirm the route before a larger one, though fees and minimum withdrawal rules still apply. Never approve an unexpected transaction as a supposed step to activate receiving.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Flex need a separate online login for normal wallet access?
The basic hardware-wallet setup uses the device and companion app. Optional third-party services may have separate requirements; do not confuse them with recovery phrase disclosure.
Can I use desktop USB instead of mobile Bluetooth?
Yes, on a supported computer. Consult current documentation for update-specific requirements rather than assuming that all device tasks use identical connections.
