Understand Ledger Live Windows 10 Compatibility
Ledger Live Windows 10 compatibility has two parts: whether Ledger’s current release supports your system, and whether that Windows installation still receives security updates. Ledger Live is now called Ledger Wallet. This independent guide explains the checks needed before treating an older PC as a suitable device for managing hardware-wallet accounts.
A successful installation answers only one question: the software could run on that machine at that moment. It does not prove ongoing publisher support, feature availability, or current protection for the operating system underneath it.
Windows 10 Support and App Requirements Are Separate
Microsoft ended standard Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025. Review Microsoft’s current lifecycle information for your edition and any applicable Extended Security Updates program. Coverage depends on the relevant program and enrollment; the words Windows 10 on the desktop do not establish that the PC is still protected.
Ledger’s own requirements can change independently. Check the official application download page before installing or upgrading. If current requirements exclude your setup, use a supported operating system rather than trying to force a legacy configuration to accept the newest package.
Identify the Exact Computer Configuration
In Settings, open System and About. Record the edition, version, and system type. Distinguish a 32-bit Windows installation from a 64-bit installation, and check the processor architecture instead of assuming all Windows laptops use the same package.
Also review available storage and the state of Windows Update. The application needs network access to retrieve supported account information, and the hardware wallet needs a working USB data connection for desktop use. Bluetooth capability on the PC does not replace the supported desktop USB workflow.
Make a Practical Migration Decision
If your PC can move to a currently supported Windows release, review Microsoft’s official upgrade requirements. If hardware prevents that move, another supported desktop or compatible mobile setup may be a better route. Confirm that your Ledger model and required features work on the alternative before relying on it.
For example, an Android phone may support a suitable USB OTG connection, while an iPhone does not offer the same wired connection to a Nano S Plus. Platform migration needs a device and feature check, not simply a different download button.
Reconnect Without Creating a New Wallet
Moving the companion application to a supported computer does not require moving coins between addresses. Install the official app, connect your existing configured Ledger device, complete the genuine check, and add the appropriate supported accounts. Confirm account networks and addresses after setup.
Keep the recovery phrase offline. A new computer should not ask you to type it into the application. Your device PIN belongs on the hardware wallet, while any app-lock setting controls local application access. These serve different purposes and should not be confused during migration.
Avoid Compatibility Shortcuts
Do not download an unknown old installer, apply unofficial Windows patches, or disable security protection just to keep the app launching. If a required account is unavailable, ask Ledger Support about current supported options for that asset and model. Product requirements can change faster than an older installation tutorial.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Windows 10 still recommended just because an installer runs?
No. Check both current application support and Microsoft’s security-update coverage. A supported operating system is the stronger basis for continued use.
Will I lose access when I change computers?
The companion app is an interface. A correctly configured Ledger device can be used with a compatible installation to discover and manage its supported accounts again.
